  3. Are you a high school senior, college student, recent graduate, or young adult interested in a short-term or summer job working with youth and the environment?

    If so, you can apply to be a Team Leader, Site Manager, Warehouse Project Manager, Communication Coordinator, Field Manager, or Operations Program Support Assistant for DOEE’s Green Zone Environmental Program (GZEP).

    Every summer, the DOEE implements a comprehensive curriculum through a partnership with the Marion Barry Summer Youth Employment Program to provide up to 250 youth and young adults, ages 14 to 24, with an opportunity to learn about energy and environmental issues, complete community-based environmental work projects such as rain gardens and storm drain markers, and prepare for careers. The program is designed to educate GZEP participants about the sustainability, energy, water, wildlife, and natural resource issues impacting the District. GZEP participants receive their education, green career development, and job training from experts at DOEE, local non-profit organizations, other partnering organizations, and sister-agencies. Being a GZEP staff member is a great opportunity to work with District youth and gain valuable leadership experience.

Team Leader (12 Openings)  Minimum Commitment: 35 hours/week for 8 weeks.Applications Close: 05-15-2026

Provide hybrid leadership and supervision to a team of up to 12 youth/young adults ages 14-24. Lead team in completing projects as prescribed by daily work schedules and/or other duties as directed by the Site Manager.

$18.00/hr

Site Manager (4 Openings)Minimum Commitment: 40 hours/week for 8 weeks.Applications Close: 05-15-2026

Plans and manages the daily field operations of the Hybrid GZEP program. Oversees all projects assigned to the GZEP participants and supervises the Team Leaders to ensure adequate supervision of MBSYEP participants.

$19.00/hr

Ward/Warehouse Manager (1 opening)Minimum Commitment: 40 hours/week for 10 weeks.Applications Close: 05-10-2026

Coordinate with Site Managers and Central Office staff to deliver supplies and support day-to-day logistics. Maintain a log of warehoused items and oversee inventory of supplies and stocking. Oversee Site Managers and the day-to-day operations of multiple sites, and work with the central office to implement GZEP.

$20.00/hr

Communication Coordinator (1 opening)Minimum Commitment: 40 hours/week for 15 weeks.Applications Close: 05-10-2026

Plans and manages the daily field operations of the media and GZEP program tracking of information and data.  Oversees all media projects at each worksite to ensure adequate supervision and documentation of program processes.  Works closely with the Office of Communications, Engagement and Outreach to maintain GZEP social media presence, take photos and video, and support all other GZEP-related media task.

$20.00/hr

Field Manager (1 opening)Minimum Commitment: 40 hours/week for 21 weeks.Applications Close: 05-01-2026              

Plans and manages the daily field operations of the Hybrid GZEP program. Oversees all projects assigned to the GZEP participants and supervises the Ward/Warehouse/Site Managers to ensure adequate supervision/oversight of GZEP staff.

$22.00/hr

Operations Program Support Assistant (1 opening) Minimum Commitment: 40 hours/week for 27 weeks.Applications Close: 05-01-2026

                                                                              

Assists the GZEP Program Coordinator in executing day-to-day logistics, purchasing, planning, and coordination.
