Trash & Beautification Committee

Greetings! I'm Commissioner Anna Roblin, and I'm the Chair of 5D's Trash and Beautification Committee. Commissioner Charquinta McCray is the Vice Chair.

If you have any kind of issues with trash or any ideas for improving the beauty of our neighborhoods, please don't hesitate to contact us!

Please let us know if you'd like to join either the cleanup or beautification groups, or both. We are doing a lot of good work in the neighborhoods of 5D, and we'd love to have you join us!

Collaborations & City Resources

If you have concerns about a particular area, please contact us and we can schedule a walk with the Mayor's Office of the Clean City, the Department of Buildings (DOB), and the Department of Public Works (DPW) to identify illegal dumping hotspots, unresolved 311 concerns, and areas for potential beautification projects (tree boxes, gardens, food forests, etc.).

Cleanup Tips

Keep your yard and the street in front of your home clean.

When neighbors see a cleaner street, they're less likely to litter.

Attach a garbage bag to your fence for passersby to throw trash in.

This is working very well in some neighborhoods. Walk down Holbrook St in Trinidad from Florida Ave to Neal St and you will see a lot of bags and much less trash on the street!

Post a "Do not litter" sign.

Comm. Roblin has yard signs that say "Do not litter" and come with a metal post. Anyone is welcome to pick up a sign; just contact Comm. Roblin. These signs can only be placed on private property (front/rear yards), not in public space. They can be placed in your front and/or rear yards on fences or otherwise propped up so that they can be seen by passersby or vehicles driving by.

Request "No Illegal Dumping" sign placement from DDOT

These signs are placed in public spaces like alleys. They must go through an approval process; there is no guarantee that they will approved and placed. To request a sign, call 311, press 5 at the automated system, and request placement of the signs at specific locations. DC311 will transmit the request to DDOT.

Dustpan

You can borrow these tools for the day; they must be returned later the same day. You must leave either a copy of your ID or driver's license or a $20 bill upon pickup and you will receive it back upon return of the tools.
