Community Grants
ANC 5D uses a portion of its annual budget to support projects that make our neighborhoods stronger, safer, and more connected. Community grants are one way we can invest in local ideas that benefit the people who live and work in 5D. District law requires that all ANC funding be used through grants rather than sponsorships, and every grant must serve a clear public purpose. This means funds cannot be used for the general operations of an organization or for private benefit but should directly support activities that bring value to the community. Our goal is to help residents and community groups bring positive, public-minded projects to life in ANC 5D.
How to Apply for a Community Grant
Connect With a Commissioner
Before submitting an application, applicants must first secure a sponsoring ANC 5D Commissioner who will bring the request forward.
Review the Guidelines
Start by reading the Office of ANCs (OANC) grant guidelines. These outline what types of grants are allowed and what expenses can be covered.
Submit Your Application
Use the official grant application form provided on the OANC website. Completed applications must be sent to both OANC (oancs@dc.gov) and ANC 5D (5d@anc.dc.gov). Applications not submitted on the approved form cannot be considered. Grant approval and money disbursement can take six to eight weeks from application submission; please plan accordingly.
OANC Review
Once submitted, OANC will examine the request to confirm it aligns with the guidelines.
ANC 5D COW Meeting Presentation
After the OANC has confirmed the eligibility of the proposal, the applicant is expected to present at the next ANC 5D Committee of the Whole (COW) meeting and answer commissioners' questions.
ANC 5D Review and Vote
Applications must be submitted at least three weeks before the next monthly ANC 5D meeting. After OANC provides its review and guidance, the request will be placed on the agenda for consideration at a regular public meeting. Check the ANC 5D calendar for meeting dates and location details.
